Botswana Railways invites fully qualified and experienced individuals with a good record accomplishment to apply for the position of a Track Worker under the Civil Engineering section tenable at various stations along the railway line.
The position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of railroad tracks including construction and maintenance of the railway line. The job further entails handling heavy machinery and tools to ensure the safety and functionality of the tracks
Educational Qualification: Cambridge/BGCSE. A trade test qualification in the following fields; Trade Test B in Construction or Permanent Way Construction and Maintenance would be an added advantage.
Experience: Two years post-qualification experience in a similar role.
• Inspection and maintenance: Inspecting track condition, identifying defects, and making repairs.
• Laying and repairing tracks: Installing new tracks, replacing damaged components (like ties, rails, and switches), and aligning track.
• Right-of-way maintenance: Clearing obstacles, removing vegetation, and maintaining drainage systems.
• Using specialized equipment: Operating machinery like tampers, graders, and other tools to maintain track alignment and surface. • Following safety rules: Adhering to strict safety protocols, wearing appropriate PPE, and ensuring a safe work environment.
• Collaborating with crews: Working effectively with other track workers to complete tasks efficiently and safely.
• Physical fitness and stamina: Due to the physically demanding nature of the work, good physical condition and stamina are essential.
• Mechanical aptitude: Understanding of track construction and repair processes, as well as the operation of machinery.
• Teamwork: Working collaboratively with others in a crew setting.
• Safety awareness: Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures for working on or near railroad tracks.
• Communication skills: Ability to follow instructions, communicate with team members, and report incidents
